The RCNDE community gathered in Bristol between 27–30 April 2026 for a highly successful series of RCNDE Spring events that brought together experts from academia, industry, and early-career research. Across four days of activities, attendees shared insights, showcased cutting-edge research, and helped shape the future direction of the Centre.
The programme featured a diverse range of engagements, including a visit to the National Composites Centre (NCC), the CDT Review Day, the Annual Research Review, and the 71st RCNDE Board Meeting. Blessed with warm, sunny weather, the events provided an ideal setting for both formal discussions and informal networking.
Showcasing Research and Talent
A highlight of the week was the CDT Review Day, where doctoral researchers from across the network presented their work. Topics ranged from machine learning applications in NDT to advanced ultrasonic imaging and electromagnetic techniques, reflecting the breadth and innovation within the RCNDE community.
The Annual Research Review further demonstrated the strength of RCNDE-supported projects. The event featured presentations on key research themes such as explainability in machine learning for NDE, digital qualification of ultrasonic inspection, and advances in laser ultrasound and electromagnetic evaluation.
Strategic Discussions and Future Direction
The week concluded with the 71st RCNDE Board Meeting, where members reviewed progress and discussed strategic priorities for the coming years. Key topics included the 2026 Vision, funding opportunities, and the centre’s delivery plan, ensuring continued alignment between research innovation and industry needs.
Beyond the technical programme, the series offered valuable opportunities to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships, and foster collaboration.
