High Accuracy Ultrasonic Monitoring of Metal Components
This PhD project will be concerned with creating the world’s most accurate metal degradation monitoring setup. The focus of the project will be on laboratory applications to study surface phenomena such as oxidation film formation. Oxidation films can have corrosion inhibition effects, they form naturally but they can also break down easily. It is important to know their characteristics as they occur in some oil and gas production facilities and in carbon capture and sequestration facilities. This project will further knowledge in the field by investigating:
1 The use of multiple transducers to spatially resolve behaviour of the processes.
2 Research of better temperature compensation strategies.
3 Improved robustness of instrumentation for laboratory use.
