EngD student 2005-2009
University: University of Strathclyde
Sponsoring company: Alba Ultrasound Ltd
EngD research: Spiral 2D Array Designs for Volumetric Imaging
The main focus of my EngD thesis was to investigate the design and manufacture of sparse 2D ultrasonic arrays using fractal layouts. The techniques developed allow the number of array elements to be reduced, without affecting the functional performance of the arrays for NDE applications. A prototype array was produced, and its imaging capability demonstrated on dissimilar metal welds.
Current role: PZFlex European Manager, Weidlinger Associates
I currently work as the PZFlex European Manager for Weidlinger Associates, a US structural engineering firm. PZFlex is a Finite Element Analysis package designed for simulating ultrasonic transduction and wave propagation.
My EngD research has served as an invaluable foundation to my career. I would wholeheartedly recommend the RCNDE’s program to any candidate who wants to work at the cutting edge of NDE.
